MAXACE KILLER WHALE 2.0 - MIDNIGHT CAT DESIGN

Following on from the hugely successful original, the Killer Whale 2.0 features several factors  to make this knife special, including the 3.86 inch Swedish ASP60 steel blade, a sculpted titanium handle, and incredibly smooth action thanks to the Maxace Multi Row Bearing System.

While ASP60 steel can be hardened as high as 70HRC; Maxace heat treats their ASP60 blades to 64-65 HRC to give the blade its optimum toughness and edge retention while still making it reasonably easy to sharpen.

Midnight Cat have eliminated the fluff catching holes from the original, to give this new model a more elegant look and to be more practical for use. It has fine milling on the handle so there's extra grip and gives the knife a nice refined look.

The Killer Whale 2.0 includes a sculptured titanium pocket clip or great retention,  3/4 length back spacer and comes in a padded nylon case for storage.

ASSAB ASP60 STEEL

ASP60 (Assab) - Extremely high alloy, high speed tool steel. Capable of very high red hot hardness, up to 68-70HRC. Highly wear resistant steel. Rather difficult to sharpen, especially at 68HRC and above, but holds the edge really well. Japanese company KIYA produces kitchen knives using Hitachi HAP72 steel, which is Hitachi's version of the alloy,

Have you ever seen the video of Killer Whales hunting and killing a White Shark? This is the knife they would have liked to have had to get to the tasty bits.

The blade of the Killer Whale 2.0 is shaped like an apex predator surging through dark water toward its prey. Pleasingly, Maxace have sharpened it differently to their other knives, to take advantage of the incredibly robust steel. It has a pointier point than I expected, but it is not fragile, once again making good use of the robust steel. The gimping on the top of the blade is stylish but not necessary, and the choil is not big enough for a forward grip for my medium sized fingers. It may look like you can use this knife in a forward grip, but I don’t think more than a few people will be able to pull this off comfortably.

The handle is very ergonomic for my medium sized hands, and would be perfect for someone with larger hands. The texturing feels good and adds tangible grip. The pocket clip is an interesting shape and works well.

The detent is medium strong, and the big blade rockets out with a satisfying thwack.

The fit and finish is somewhere between Kansept and Reate, and the Killer Whale 2.0 represents excellent value for money.

Thanks David.
It's another 'killer' knife from Maxace.
